Michigan Summer 2012

There is something really nice about returning to the same place for summer vacation every year.   Unfortunately this year was cooler and cloudier than years past, but the kids didn't seem to mind.  It was a really fun week all around and easier now that all the kids are getting older.  Sasha even graduated this year to sleeping up on the third floor with her other girl cousins.  Some highlights this year were tubing and skiing behind Uncle Joe's and Grandpa's new boats, miniature golfing for the first time, looking for bugs to put in the new bug box, jumping in the Lake Michigan waves, and playing with cousins.  Phil was especially happy to get to ski again after not doing it the last few years.

Big Events for August

The most exciting things to take place in August around here were Sasha learning to ride a bike and Jack using the potty. Way to go kids! One evening we were out in the driveway riding various vehicles and Sasha tried going down the incline of our drive with her pedalless balance bike, something she had shown very little interest in prior to that night. Over the course of a half hour she was flying down the drive, balancing all the way. We bought the real bike the next week, took the training wheels off immediately before she could get used to them, and she took off. Now biking is "my favorite thing to do in the world." Jack is well on his way to being potty trained--a dream come true for Phil and I! There are still the occasional mishaps, but he is doing pretty well. Fruit loops, of all things, seemed to be the best incentive for him and getting to wear Lightning McQueen underwear. Other big events pictured above were a fire station party and a birthday party on the old Santa Fe Railway. Sasha started a new year of preschool as well at the end of August. The sunflower picture was taken when both kids had a terrible case of hand, foot and mouth disease that they picked up in the airport likely. Sasha's mouth, palms, and soles were coated with very painful blisters. She could only take sips of milk for 3 days straight, poor thing. The sunflower was her pride and joy from the garden this year. I will post pictures our Michigan vacation in the next post.
